UCSF Celebrates
WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY
Tobacco addiction causes 438,000 deaths in the United States each year, making it the leading preventable cause of death. In addition, some 8.6 million Americans live with serious smoking-related illness. To promote awareness about the health hazards of tobacco, the UCSF campus community is invited and encouraged to celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) on Thursday, May 31, from 8:00 to 10am and/or 11:30-1:00 pm at UCSF, SFGH, Mount Zion, Laurel Heights and other locations to be announced. UCSF is proud to participate in the World Health Organization's global event.

The theme of World No Tobacco Day 2012 is "Tobacco Industry Interference". The campaign will focus on the need to expose and counter the tobacco industry's brazen and increasingly aggressive attempts to undermine the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) because of the serious danger they pose to public health.
