Director of Tobacco Cessation, Division of Public Health, Tobacco Prevention & Control Branch, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
Joyce Swetlick has served as the Director of Tobacco Cessation with the NC Public Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch for the last fifteen years. Her responsibilities with the Branch include building infrastructure to advance evidence-based tobacco cessation through NC providers, public and private health plans/payers, employers, and community groups and managing the NC Tobacco Use Quitline - QuitlineNC. Before moving to North Carolina, Joyce was a Program Project Manager for the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation, where she facilitated the launch of the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line and oversaw 12 community projects. Earlier in her career, she served as a health educator in Northern Kentucky, was the first tobacco prevention coordinator in the state, and developed tobacco use prevention programs for the KY Department of Education. Joyce holds a Master’s in Public Health- Health Behavior and Education from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. She is one of six directors of the nationally accredited Duke-UNC Tobacco Treatment Specialist Credentialing Program.
Joyce has been working in Tobacco Treatment, Prevention, and Control for 33 years.
